A Suggestion Of Bones

“From her Northumbrian roots to her adopted Wigtownshire home, Nichol conveys sights, smell, colour and movement in season and landscape in a way which brings home not only a deep love of time and place but also a sense of her small, temporary and sometimes vulnerable position within it. Her characterisations of child, man or old woman are tender, respectful and evocative, occasionally awestruck with love, but never twee or pat. And she has a tendency to wrap poems up with a satisfying lastline. These poems will be read over and over because they’re always going somewhere and the invitations to follow are written in a language that’s hard to resist”
